Makeup CPR {Fixing shattered makeup}

I feel like we need to have a moment of silence for this situation right here 🙁 #HighlighterFlatline

You gals will remember the excitement in the room when I received this OFRA highlighter in my April Boxycharm in this post. So you can imagine my heartache when I spotted my toddler with this in his hand, gasping as if he innocently discovered this at the very moment I caught him. He’s lucky I did not put him up for adoption the very same day!  He didn’t do all the damage though, he broke the lid off and cracked a piece of the highlighter out. I then taped it closed, put it in my bad meaning to depot it, forgot about it and dropped my bag. #SHATTERED highlighter and heart.

I have seen many posts online about how to fix your makeup and I was definitely prepared to try ANYTHING to save my highlighter.

Items used:

  • Alcohol
  • Thin nail art/makeup brush (back end)
  • 2.5ml measuring spoon or dropper
  • Serviettes or Double ply toilet roll

First I used the back end of the nail art brush to crush up all the highlighter into a powder form.

I then started adding drops of alcohol to the highlighter (eventually little spoonfuls as most of it evaporates almost immediately) and I mixed it using the back of the brush. You have to be patient, mix, drop, mix, etc.

I then took a thick piece of toilet roll and pressed it into the powder to absorb any excess alcohol. I did this also to smooth the product and press it into the pan…and voila….this is the end result…..

I then left it open to dry overnight.

It ain’t pretty, but it still works, so my heart will have to deal with my poor Frankenstein Highlighter now <3 Mama still loves you my precious….

You can use this method for fixing basically anything, blush, eyeshadows, etc. Though I really really hope you never have to perform makeup CPR gals!

Hmmm that toddler has in the last month destroyed my highlighter, an entire tub of Clinique moisturiser and also emptied an entire bottle of face serum from The Body Shop…brand new bottle as well. Read more about that HERE. I cannot deal anymore…he uses chairs, boxes, his brother’s back…anything to climb and get to where he wants to be *sobbing face* Anybody know where I can get makeup insurance?

And if anybody is looking for an almost 2yr old that can basically open anything…let me know, I may have one for sale 😉

I’m Simone, a mom of 3, a wife...obsessed with my family, makeup and books!
