Best makeup products of 2017

We’re ready for the 3rd post of 2018! In case you missed it, I did my ‘Best skincare products of 2017’ post, and you can read about it over HERE. Today I chat about my best makeup products, my top picks that I enjoyed in 2017. Some of them may be a repeat of 2016, in which case, I am not going into too much detail and I’ll link the 2016 post for you. I’m thoughtful aren’t I?

Primer

My ride or die primer will always be the Benefit Porefessional that I mention in my 2016 picks, but this year I was pleasantly surprised by the Hean Oil free makeup base from Glamore SA and I reached for it a lot! A little goes a LONG way and it creates a smooth, matte canvas for my makeup. Also, it smells like baby powder, a very pleasant light scent.

Foundation

On my list I actually had the Maybelline Fit Me foundation, because I LOVE it, but when it comes down to it, I am always surprised by how flawless and natural my skin looks when I wear my ride or die from L’Oreal Infallible 24H Matte foundation, and so this year, the top foundation spot remains with my beloved Infallible 24H matte foundation <3

Concealer

I am sure you have seen every single You Tuber rave about the concealer I’ve chosen, and I am here to tell you that they rave about it for a reason! The Tarte Shape Tape is amazing! It provides full coverage, but feels lightweight and blends like a dream. I think I could have gone a shade lighter, but I am not the hugest fan of the super light under eyes, so I am happy with the shade.

Bronzer

No surprises here, as this palette has previously featured in my ULTIMATE TOP 10 makeup products! That’s the NYX contour and highlight palette. I’m more than happy with this palette and haven’t felt the need to try any new bronzer palettes.

Highlight

You recall the highlight that lived? Well my OFRA Rodeo Drive highlighter is amazing, despite the fact that it’s seen such tragedy in its life. Still one of my most reached for highlighters and I hope it will still have a long and glowy life ahead with me.

Mascara

I swear I feel like I have to choose between my kids with some of these choices! If you’ve followed my blog since the beginning, you would know that I swear by Benefit’s Roller Lash! However the last one I purchased was really dry and I wasn’t so blown away by it. I am sure something was wrong with that one, because I have purchased this mascara at least 4 or 5 times already. However, I finally had the chance to try the L’Oreal Telescopic mascara and I was blown away. An interesting super thin silicone brush. A formula that can become clumpy if you apply more than 2 or 3 layers, but not offensively clumpy if that makes sense? It creates great volume and gives me pitch black lashes. I really enjoy this mascara.

Eyeshadow palette

This one was a no brainer. From the minute I held my Jaclyn Hill x Morphe palette in my hands, I knew I would love it! I love the shade selection and I love the quality of these shadows. The mattes blend really well and the shimmers are GORGEOUS! This palette just inspires me to be a bit more creative than any other palette has. Put this one on your wishlist for 2018 if you don’t own it…you won’t be sorry 😉

Blush

No surprise here….the Benefit blush, ‘Dallas’, retains its spot as most loved blush for another year in a row <3

Setting Spray

I’m not fussy with setting sprays, provided it keeps my makeup on my face. The Slay all day setting spray from Gerard Cosmetics is lovely. It smells of coconut and it’s really refreshing and I think just because I love coconut scented anything….I decided this would make the list this year.

Setting powder

I picked up the RCMA powder earlier this year and it’s become a firm favourite in my makeup routine. The powder is really finely milled and doesn’t leave a white cast on my face. My only complaint is that they really could put it into a better container/tub. It’s super messy to work with!

Brows

Brow Pencil…no shock here, my MAC brow pencil in ‘Spiked’ will remain as my top brow product 😉

I’ve never found a brow gel that I am obsessed with though….until now! I got the Benefit ready, set, brow gel a few months back and I really love it. It locks my brows into place and they stay there all day. The only drawback is that it’s pricey for a brow gel.

Another brow product that I have been enjoying is the Brow Primer, also by Benefit. I like the ‘brush’, as it really gets through my very difficult brows. The primer does a nice job in making my brows appear fuller and thicker.

Lips

I don’t have ride or die lip products. I use Essence lip liners, because they’re affordable and come in a range of colours. Lipsticks, really just depends on the colour I need. MAC ‘modesty’ is a nude pink I reach for often and then I also really love the OFRA liquid lipstick formula and I have the shade ‘Tuscany’. Not the most long wearing, but very comfortable and opaque, so I don’t mind reapplying.

That’s that for my best makeup products of 2017! Do you own any of these? What have been some of your best makeup products for the year?

I’m Simone, a mom of 3, a wife...obsessed with my family, makeup and books!
