Having a picture perfect party {Party Tips Series}

It’s Thursday, so you know what that means….it’s gonna be a party ya’ll 😉 We’re knee-deep into this party planning business and I think we’ve gotten some great tips from Vannah and Natalie. There’s also been some major cake inspo from Ginger Pops as well. There’s still some ground to cover, but today we’re going to talk about preserving all those memories created from throwing a fabulous party! How? With photos of course. To me, a photographer at a birthday party is definitely a luxury when it comes to my budget. However, I realised that you’re so busy making sure everybody is fed and happy, that you have no good pictures of your kids, yourself with your kids, your decor, etc. If you get a family member to take the pictures, then in turn, they end up in none of the pictures either.

It’s obviously not a must have, but I think if you can afford it, booking a photographer is important. You’ll get beautiful pictures of your decor, your family and all your friends and their kids. Today I’ve roped in my favourite Port Elizabeth photographer and now friend, Chantelle from Chantelle Kendrick Photography to feature in our Party tips Series!

I can’t recall exactly how I came across Chantelle’s work (and it’s bugging me, because I love a good back story), but I think the first time I ever booked her was for my daughter’s 5th birthday in 2013. I was absolutely in love with the pictures that she took. She caught stunning pictures of Addison and her friends, my friends and their kids and of course, the birthday girl, Addison herself. We also got some really pretty family pictures that day as well. It’s some of my favourite pictures to look back at.

Every once in a while, I decide which kid will get a photographer that year and I also use it as an opportunity to take some family pictures in case we don’t manage to book a family shoot that year. Chantelle just has a really special quality about her work and she is AMAZING with kids! She has endless patience and I just can’t sing her praises enough. Okay enough from me, let’s meet the lady behind the lens 😉

Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself.

A: I am a 34-year-old, married, stay at home mom.  With one stunning boy who is 6 years old.

Q: Tell me about the business and how it came to be.

A: I started about 6 years ago, when my son was born. After a while friends and family started referring me to their friends and eventually I had to start charging, yay! Extra income LOL

Once I realized I had a good thing going in my business, I took the leap and decided to do this full time.  I have a GREAT support structure that allowed me to take this leap.  Without them, my business could never had happened.

Q: What’s your favourite type of shoot?

A: I looooove the little ones. I think it is because I have a boy of my own, but in saying that, I love most of my shoots…I get to meet interesting clients, some who eventually become friends <3

Q: What are your top tips for choosing your photographer for any event?

A: I would say have a good look at a photographer’s portfolio.  Make sure you look at all their work, as it will give you a good idea of their shooting and editing style.

Q: Your pet peeve in your line of business?

I do get very disappointed when clients add their own filters to my images. (Something for me to remember!)

Q: If you could have one photographer capture your special moments, be it a local or international photographer, who would it be and why?

That quite a hard question, there are so many togs in Port Elizabeth that are bursting with talent…too many to mention LOL
