What I was loving in July {Monthly Faves}
I’ve already started a post with ‘oh my word, can you believe that it’s August already?’, so no need for the dramatics today again ๐ It’s an exciting time of the year, because my baby boy turns 2 soon, then it’s a snow ball of birthdays and celebrations! In case you missed it, I’ve started a ‘party series’ for the month of August and you can read the 1st one overย here. So July has come and gone, and I’ve discovered so many products in July that I could feature as a favourite, but sadly I had to narrow the list down or we’d be here all day!
Grab a cuppa and sit back. You know it gets pretty chatty up in here ๐
July has been a month where I’ve really been focusing on skin care more than anything. Since discovering The Beautiful Store, I’ve been going a bit crazy with sheet masks and some other goodies from them. I’ve been dying to try Skin Creamery products for probably almost 2 years now, and finally I have gotten my hands on a few products. The one making it into my faves this month is the Skin Creamery’s Everyday Face and Body Cream.
This cream smells just like spearmint. I absolutely love it. The key ingredients are coconut, jojoba and baobab oil. It’s nourishing enough to use on your body, but light enough to use on your face. I’m a mom of 3 and I tell you, there was never time for body cream in my life. Since discovering this product that’s a 2-in-1 product, my poor dry arms are finally getting some much-needed pampering every night! Another thing that I like is that I am making a dent in the product. As a blogger, I spend a lot of moneyย on trying products. I hate wasting money, so I like that I will finish this product. It will feature in an empties video in the future, unlike that greasy aqueous cream that I’ve had for 4 years now and have not touched in 3.
I bought The Body Shop’s Vitamin C liquid peel a few months back and I loved it. I however started trying other exfoliators and face masks and just kind of forgot about it. About a month ago I reached for this again and I have been using it weekly. It makes such a difference, especially on my nose area that can become pretty clogged up. YUCK. I am going to say though, I have gotten a sample of the Drops of Light liquid peel and I may be loving it even more. I want to go and pick up a bottle soon!! The Body shop is killing it with these liquid peels!
I was not a super fan of the Revlon ColourStay concealer, but I started using it about 2 or 3 months ago again and it’s usually my go to these days. I notice if I don’t go in with a lot of product, I don’t have much (or any) creasing. It looks very natural and it’s something I see myself repurchasing.
I’ve tried a few new foundations in the last few months. I’ve been trying out higher end foundations with high-end hopes, but I don’t know….nothing seems to surpass the love I have for the L’oreal Infallible 24H-Matte foundation. This foundation gives me medium coverage that is buildable. It looks really natural on my skin, like skin, only better. I’ve repurchased it twice already and this one is basically empty, so number 3 will be moving in soon. I did a showdown between this foundation and the Infallible 24H foundation in THIS post if you want to check it out and it also featured in my Top Picks for 2016 here.
I picked up this peach scented Sugar Lip Scrub from Dischem a few months ago and I’ve been using this often to get rid of horrible flaky skin on my lips. Winter really takes a toll on our skin, and lips are not excluded from this. Especially when wearing a matte lipstick, you need smooth looking lips. This scrub is great and it was really affordable.
Ahh my beloved Essence lip gloss from the “All That Greys‘ edition that came out about a year ago. I have hoarded this gloss like a lunatic. I love this gloss. It’s the perfect nudey pink and it smells divine, almost like sweet little cupcakes. Besides how divine it smells, if I add this to any botched lip colour, I just feel it saves me every single time. I hope Essence reads this and they please look into having this gloss available again one day <3
I’ve been trying to get my hair into a semi decent condition. After 2 months of not heat styling it, I finally caved and flat ironed it. I used the Tresemme Botanique Shampoo and Conditioner with Coconut milk and Aloe Vera, followed by the Keratin Smoothย treatment masque that I got with it. Side bar: Dischem gave me the treatment for free with the purchase of the shampoo and conditioner. Score!
I felt that my hair was so nourished and soft after using these 3 products. It honestly looked like it’s never looked before! After I flat ironed it, I put my hair up in a bun (how counter productive I know) and the next morning I had legitimate salon/Kardashian waves. I have honestly never seen my hair looking like that before. My hair is really bouncy and healthy looking. I’ve used this on my daughter’s hair and same results. I’m not sure if it was the shampoo and conditioner or the treatment, but I’m using this combo together until one of them is finished! The shampoo has a sort of gel consistency and is a clear colour, which just adds to the freshness that the brand and packaging seem to relay. The conditioner feels rich and has a faint coconut smell.
I did read that my friend over at Melanie’s Nook found that this shampoo and conditioner was too rich for her, so it just shows how different we all are.
Last, but certainly not least…it’s Winter, and I need chocolate ALL the time. Summer bodies are made in Winter my ass….lol. I can’t even pick my fave. I’ve been a chocolate whore this month, but if I have to pick, I’m going with the Cadbury Mallo’s. Flip, little fluffy clouds of mallow and crispy biscuit covered in chocolate? There is no better combination! These can only be found at Clicks (as far as my detective skills go), so I try to pick up 2 packs at a time. You got to plan your chocolate binges gals ๐ PS Sorry for the bad picture quality. I consume these so fast and forget to take pictures. *Can’t look face*ย
That’s it for my July faves! Let me know in the comments what you were loving recently and also if you love or hate any of my faves!

For the life of me I can never find the beauty treats lipscrub at my local Dischem. I really need to get my hands on them. Especially the peach one as I am obsessed with peach scented anything.
Simone
Aww bummer! Perhaps ask them next time and maybe they can direct you? I can’t even recall now where exactly I found it. Flip…I hope it was Dischem. lol. Just kidding…I’m sure it was.
Vee
You know what I’m trying right? LOL! The chocolates! Because summer bodies and all that. How much are they?
Simone
They’re good. About R32 for a pack of I think 16 or 20. There are 2 trays in the pack.
Vee
Also the tresemme if I am honest, really want to try soon!
Melissa Javan
I need that lip scrub please!
Simone
Definitely! And it’s so cheap. Apparently lip scrubs are easy to DIY though. I just don’t have that DIY trait in me though. lol.
Melanie
What an awesome array of goodies! I am definitely trying the chocolates and the Skin Creamery is on my “to-get” list at the end of the month.
Come to think of it, I have the watermelon scent lip scrub somewhere in my collection.
And when your hubby comes to Cape Town again, Ill give you my All that grey lipgloss. I never use mine.
Loved your post ๐

Lol Donna. Thanks for the in depth reply. I love chatty responses:)
Elvive is a great brand as well, so I’m sure that will work great on her hair. The nice thing was the free masque at Dischem with the Tresemme.
Ya we should head out foundation shopping one day. he he. It’s the only time I see my friends, going makeup shopping with them! xxx
donna
