Kids imagination makes a comeback with Toddles-Bobbles + {Giveaway}
As a mom in this techno age, seeing your kids watch You Tube, play on an Xbox or play on a tablet is soul-destroying at times. My kids don’t have the freedom to play in the street with the neighborhood kids like we did. We played until the street lamps went on, then you knew…supper and bath time and off you went. Parents were not looking for us or worried about us.
It’s a world I wish they could know…the world they now refer to as ‘the olden days’. As we did when referring to our parents when we were growing up. he he. All I want is for my kids to use their imagination and go a bit old school once in a while. Don’t you agree? What other option is there besides TV and tablets though?
Recently I was lucky and won a card game from Imagine Toys called Toddles-Bobbles. I didn’t quite know what this game entailed, but a win is a win and I was hopeful it would be something that the kids would enjoy. I didn’t have to hope much, because the game is a HIT in our home. So much so, that they may actually start hitting each other to win. True story.
So what is this game?
It’s a card game that consists of 60 cards featuring 12 different characters. The aim of the game is to help with memory function and develop imagination.
How do we play it?
You start with the pile of cards faced down in the middle. Player 1 turns over a card and you can reveal one of the characters in the above picture. None of them have names, so as you turn over a card from the pile for the first time, you give the character a name. (i.e. A favourite for the pink one above is ‘Electric Hair‘.) The next player turns over a card and names the next character until they’ve all been named. ‘Long blue legs‘ in the first round/game becomes ‘green eared short arms‘ in the next round/game, etc. So it’s really great for getting their brains to work and think of different names for every round.
Next, when a character appears for the 2nd time, the point it to be the first person to remember and yell out that character’s name. If you yell first, you take the card. Player with the most cards win.
Is it fun?
YES YES and YES! My kids LOVE this! They willingly abandon the Xbox to play this game. We play at least 4 or 5 rounds at a time until mama needs to tap out or tag dad in. It’s a ball of fun thinking up names for the characters and I love when my middle kid has it on the tip of his tongue and we’re like…..just say it, just say the name!!!
The kids however love to bicker and argue about who yelled first. Mom and dad definitely try to perform the worst, because I just cannot deal with the drama.
This game is perfect for families to play together, for kids to play when having a play date, heck even at parties. I love that there is no tablet involved, just family, friends and your imagination! I plan to buy a few sets and hand them out as gifts. In this day and age where one never knows what to buy all these tech savvy kids, I love this game and the idea behind it. If you don’t have kids, but you’re one of those unfortunate souls that have many friends who keep inviting you to their kids parties, I think this game would be a great gift option.
