Make up and beauty

The meaning behind my blog’s name #30DayBBlogChallenge

I saw this #30DayBBlogChallenge over on With Elizabeth’s blog and I thought it was a cute idea. It may get my creative juices flowing, because I’ve been feeling a bit flat recently with my blogging. The most pressure for me comes with taking photos and I just haven’t had the time to do that. Off topic though, as that has nothing to do with the title of this post. Back to the #30DayBBlogChallenge, and the meaning behind my blog name….

A few years ago I stumbled upon a beauty blog. I honestly have no idea how, because I don’t think I realised there was such a thing as a ‘Beauty Blogger’. I was swept up immediately and started following any and every beauty blogger that I found. Knowing NOTHING about makeup, not owning any makeup… I was intrigued and I started leaving comments and asking questions. Wanting to know more about makeup brushes, I emailed somebody and asked for some advice. The response left me very disappointed. No…’thank you for reaching out’. No real advice. Just a really flat and generic sort of response.

That day I realise that not all beauty bloggers are equal. They’re not all friendly. They’re not all helpful. I just felt that some just made me feel like they didn’t have time for my basic kind of questions….

Fast forward 3 years and after amassing quite a bit of makeup myself now…I realised my family and friends really didn’t understand the obsession. I needed a space to vent and talk….but now to think of a name. My main goal was to NOT mislead anybody. I didn’t want anybody thinking I was claiming to be a makeup expert. To think I was slaying all day. There needed to be NO confusion about what my space on the www was about. About An Ordinary Girl…who happens to like makeup and beauty. Somebody who is no contour queen…and still has no idea how to get the perfect winged liner right…..

Don’t get me wrong, I think I’ve learnt a lot over the years by binge watching you tube videos, googling information on products and ingredients…and of course by testing more makeup than I ever need to own. I can add some value…to the girl who was me…and knows nothing and is looking for somewhere to start.

I also didn’t (and don’t) want to be one of those bloggers who I thought didn’t have any time for me. Again the blog name, I wanted it to feel and sound relatable to any and everybody.

I’m Simone, a wife, a mom of 3 kids….who will definitely not look like a glam queen if you run into me in the street (well especially not if you run into me with your car…then I will only look dead). I’m not the put together mom in heels, winging life and her eyeliner. I am just an ordinary gal….

Additional info: Initially I was ‘Girl’ but I somehow deleted that blog and could not claim ‘Girl’ again….and I then had to go with ‘Gal’. I have never really felt the ‘gal’ part…..so my aim is to ‘rebrand’ at a later stage once I find a name that really resonates with me. As ordinary as I claim to be….are any of us really ordinary? In hindsight, I find it a bit condescending to myself……but I’ll stop there.

So gals, that’s a bit of a history lesson on how yours truly named her blog. I hope my ramblings didn’t bore you too much! I don’t know that I’m going to be able to do this #30DayBBlogChallenge for 30 days straight, so I’ll just add them to the blog as I manage to get to it. Despite the lack of mojo, I do still have some other posts drafted. If only I had a full-time photographer at my disposal….

PS If you join the challenge, let me know and also use the #30DayBBlogChallenge so everybody participating can find the posts.

I’m Simone, a mom of 3, a wife...obsessed with my family, makeup and books!
