I think my LG Smart Inverter washing machine is smarter than I am!??
If you’ve followed my blog from the beginning, you’d know that I am a cloth diapering mom and also that I’m a huge advocate for water saving! With droughts and water scarcity across the country, we desperately need to save every drop that we can. When LG contacted me about testing their LG Smart Inverter washing machine, I jumped at the chance. I was really excited about the fact that it was a 17kg machine (3 kids….the laundry struggle is real!) and claims to be energy saving, water saving and has better washing technology.
The machine arrived at my house and I’ve never been so excited in my life!! With the long school holidays, I had ample opportunity and time to test this baby out. The first thing that struck me about the machine is the design. I bought a washing machine in early 2017, as my previous one had packed up in December 2016. This machine, not even a year older, made my (seemingly modern at the time) machine look like it was from the dinosaur ages. There’s a full digital display and with the silver, it is just good to look at. Let me say though, that I’m not writing this post, because the LG Smart Inverter is good to look at.
How does it perform?
The LG Smart Inverter boasts ‘Smart Motion’. Smart Motion is 3 kinds of motions created by Smart Inverter for optimized washing by fabric type. The machine agitates, rotates and swings. When you wash cloth nappies, you want to make sure there is good agitation to get your nappies squeaky clean and not smelling. I was so impressed when I watched through the glass top, how the washing literally is pushed up, pulled down, and to the side. I could see that every item in my washing machine was being taken care of. Further evidenced by really dirty socks hubby had been walking on all day. They came out spotless! So I am all for this Smart Motion 😉
How clean those socks got, could also be due to the Turbo Drum™. TurboDrum™ enables the most powerful wash and removes even the toughest dirt through strong water stream of rotating drum and pulsator in the opposite direction. With having kids, stains are the order of the day and I have noticed that my washing is really so clean.
What else is so special about this machine?
LoDecibel™ & Less Vibration. The Smart Inverter Motor minimizes noise and vibration level. This machine is so quiet, you won’t even realise it’s on!
Energy Saving with Smart Inverter Control. Smart Inverter Technology eliminates wasted operation by efficiently controlling energy use. The LG Smart Inverter uses up to 36% less energy than a conventional washing machine. In a time where we’re struggling in a strained economy, using less electricity is music to my ears.
In December 2016 my washing machine died on me. I’d had it for quite a while, and I get nervous when my old faithful appliances start konking in, because you know the saying: ‘They don’t make ’em like they used to’? I don’t have that worry with the LG Smart inverter, because they offer a 10yr warranty on the Smart Inverter Motor. TEN YEARS! That is one heck of a backing in my opinion.
Side note: The only thing I could not test was the water saving claim as we were fortunate to have some reserve tank water for the last month, so I haven’t been able to measure the water efficiency as I planned to. I’ll update the post once I have been able to investigate this aspect a bit more. However, please go check out my post on how to save water with a top loader by checking out a previous post of mine HERE.

Lastly, a huge thank you to LG for sending this product to me. I was in turn able to pay it forward and my nanny was really grateful to receive my 10 month old 13kg washing machine as her Christmas present <3

Awesome review. I was asked about the water saving by one of my readers. I’m going to go check what LG say and get back to her because it’s a real issue in South Africa right now!

I had meant to do an in depth analysis of the water consumption of my old machine vs my new machine…but I ended up giving my old one to my nanny so fast, that I had no time to do my experiment 🙁

How many litres for how many kilos of washing in the manual?
Simone
Diana I am going to check and update the post. I didn’t realise there would be info like that in a manual. Like I said I actually forgot to check what we’re using, because I use tank water and recycle the water as well.

I have an LG but a different model and I am very disappointed with the way it washes. It does not remove tough stains at all and I find have to soak clothes first before putting it into the machine. Perhaps I should upgrade to this model
Simone
You definitely should!
