Romantic destinations in South Africa
Am I the only one wondering how it is that Valentine’s day has come and gone already? That doesn’t have to mean that romance has come and gone too though. February could be one long month of love…. All of you know my struggle…I’m a mom with 3 kids, so romantic trips away is something I can only dream of at the moment. What’s wrong with dreaming though? I’ve decided to make a list of some of the most romantic cities and destinations in South Africa, that I will hopefully one day go and visit 😉
Johannesburg
African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa
First on my list is this stunning destination, nestled in a charming country setting with views of the Magaliesburg Mountains. The African Pride Mount Grace Country House & Spa seems private, serene and luxurious. There’s fine dining, wine, a spa AND they have super fast WIFI! This one literally checks every box for me! It’s situated just an hour’s drive from Johannesburg with luxury guest rooms or you can book a villa with your own private pool. So boujee. Now to check for return flights to Johannesburg, because I know my husband reads my blog 😉 I’m going to practice my surprise face over here in the corner!
Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens
I have been to Johannesburg a few times, but I have never been to the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. Apparently this nature reserve is one of the most popular spots for romantic picnics, where you can have your snacks beneath a waterfall! That sounds pretty romantic to me….. Ending off with a walk through the garden to look at the ferns or even a guided tour.
Cape Town
Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa
Off the bat, we can tell I’ve got a thing for luxury resorts with Spas. Le Franschhoek Hotel and Spa is nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands and surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. This hotel just screams pure luxury and elegance. Cape Town is to me, the most romantic city in South Africa, so the fact that this hotel is an hour’s drive from Cape Town, is a bonus! At Le Franschhoek there are various activities to keep us busy when we’re missing the kids…..
- Numerous wine tours and food and wine pairings at over 20 local wine estates
- Tours on the wine tram
- Fine dining options at award-winning restaurants
- Cheese tastings
- Chocolate tastings
- Fly fishing in exquisite surroundings
They had me at wine tours!
Kirstenbosch Gardens
Another shocking confessions, though this one may be the most shocking. I’ve been to Cape Town probably 10 times and NEVER been to Kirstenbosch Gardens. Another nature reserve and I believe it’s situated against the slops of Table Mountain. Apparently to walk through the gardens is ridiculously soothing and romantic. There’s an option for a romantic picnic or you can eat at a restaurant, so I love that there are options.
Okay, so the most important question is…where am I going first and where do I book my flights?
Have you been to any of these destinations? What are some of your top romantic picks in your own city or cities you’ve visited?
This post was done in collaboration with Travelstart. They have really affordable flights and packages on their website, so definitely go and check them out and start planning your next romantic trip away 😉Â
