Make up and beauty

My February 2018 beauty and hair favourites!

Out with the roses and hearts (and Enterprise viennas apparently!), and in with the easter eggs and the easter bunny! Tis the season of colourful and overpriced chocolates. I remember I used to be so sad, because I would spend my salary on chocolates for Addison (my daughter) and do these amazing egg hunts….and that child just was not a chocolate lover. Eventually I’d just buy her Pringles and savoury snacks for her hunts, but it just didn’t feel the same to me 🙁 An easter chip hunt? I mean…that’s not even a thing!

Wowser, off track…. So every season may bring with it a new trend or celebration, but something that never changes, is my love for makeup! It’s that time where I share my monthly favourites with you…what I loved and reached for the most. I see I actually haven’t done one of these in a while?? Let’s get started.

February 2018 Beauty faves!

Clarisonic Mia 2 (RSP R2 700)

I’ve done a full review on this product, and it’s clear that I love my Clarisonic. Not only is it cool to use, but this really has improved the texture and appearance of my skin. I have included some mild pre-peel treatments and I’m using the Clarins Double Serum as part of my #GoodSkinDays goal for 2018. I believe these products work well together and my makeup looks so flawless now as well. Whether I go for light coverage or medium coverage, I just feel my foundation looks great on my skin. I’ve even had people ask me if I’m wearing foundation, when I wasn’t! Game changer!

Skin Creamery everyday cream (RSP R345)

I posted about this over here if you want more information, but this cream is my daily cream. The thing I love the most is that it’s a dual purpose cream…I can use it on my body and on my face. It doesn’t clog my pores and it isn’t greasy. Also it looks so pretty on display AND it has a pump! So convenient. I’m almost done with my 2nd bottle now! So sad. I’m looking for recommendations for something more affordable right now, so please hit me up in the comments with a good everyday cream.

Colourpop Dream St palette  (RSP R400)

This palette is in collaboration with Kathleen Lights….and gals…..this palette is stunning! The pigment is good and the colours just look so good on my lids! If you told me 5yrs ago I would be putting blue/teal shades on my eyelids…I would have laughed at you, but this palette makes me reach for those colours! I’m not going to say too much, because I’m doing a full review later in the month.

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Mascara

Maybelline Colossal Big Shot mascara (RSP R139,95)

I’ve wanted to try this mascara for so long, and I finally picked it up a few weeks ago. I really enjoy this mascara. Maybelline just knows how to do mascara don’t they???? This adds length, it seperates my lashes and adds volume. I just feel like I have such pretty lashes when I apply this. The formula is a bit on the drier side, but we’ll see how it holds up and if I manage to get use out of it for the full 3 months lifespan.

BH Cosmetics Brow pencil and gel

I’ll combine this, because I featured these together in my haul post (where I’m also running a GIVEAWAY). I just really enjoy this pencil and this gel and it’s the combo I’ve reached for every time I did my brows in the last few weeks.

Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Gelato

Elizabeth Arden Plush Up Gelato (RSP R295)

The makeup gods smiled on me, because I was lucky enough to WIN TEN of these in January from Cosmopolitan SA. When I got them, I was a bit meh about them. I was thinking, what was different about these and a tinted lipbalm? Well I realised that when I started using them. Natural blush and Red velvet are my 2 favourite shades! They are so comfortable to wear and the wear time is quite good. The sheen they initially provide will fade as the day goes on, but the tint will still be there on your lips. Red Velvet I didn’t even reapply, but at 4pm you can see I had made an effort to put something on my lips that day. Which, as a mom of 3, is a feat on its own 😉 I think they look sophisticated on my lips and with the matte trend potentially dying down, these are a great alternative. These are great for no makeup days as well. Don’t forget you can win one if you enter my latest giveaway 😉

MAC Fix + (RSP R320)

A lovely lady asked me for a wishlist in December to gift me with something. This was such a special gesture and I’m sure she’s sick of reading about herself, but I am a truly grateful person and there aren’t many people clambering over themselves to do something nice for me. So for somebody I’d never met to be so kind….it just warms my soul <3 She got me this, along with some other goodies and I promise, everything she got me I LOVE, but this is the item I have been dying to try since I got into makeup. I feel intimidated at a MAC counter and so I end up never going there. I’ve just loved applying this after I’ve powdered my face. It just brings life back into my face and makes my makeup all ‘melt’ together?? I usually finish off with a mattifying spray, so I feel this spray just balances that out as well as a ‘primer’ to my matte finishing spray. I would say I get similar results from the Smashbox Primer water, but the MAC Fix + is cheaper vs the Smashbox that is R470 for 115mls.

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Oil-Leave-In-Cream

Elvive Extraordinary Oil-in-Cream Leave in Cream (RSP R94,95)

The ‘leave-in’ part may make this seem as if it’s a conditioner and it really isn’t.  This oil is a cream and contains 6 oils to essentially ‘nourish’ the hair. Honestly that is what it feels like…nourishment. Not moisturising or greasy, just nourishing. It’s perfect for everyday, it’s so lightweight and I find it doesn’t cause build up. I have 2 tubes of these so I always have a backup, because my kids lose things. I use this on my daughter’s hair daily. She has thick, tangle prone hair (like bird’s nest level tangle), but I find since using this, her hair texture is changing. The tangles are so minimal, and she does swimming twice a week, which used to be a nightmare.  It also provides a stunning shine to the hair. This cream is AMAZING and I usually pick it up on some promotion at Clicks.

I have a few more, but as the barman in the bar, I’m cutting myself off or this post is just going to get way too long! Spot anything that you love…or hate? What were you loving in February?

will definitely try the Elvive leave in cream for Nehara as since using the Tresemme Botanics with Coconut shampoo which you also reviewed a while ago, her hair is more shiny and silky now … which was what i wanted.

I haven’t used my Clarisonic for a few days due to a nasty pimple…I was worried about infecting my brush. Lol. So I used it yesterday and I was like…wow what a difference. Really love it!

Fingers crossed maybe santa brings you one soon 🙂

The dream st palette is so good!
