What’s a party without Cake? {Kids book review}

Today I have a really fun kids book review for you! Some of you may remember that I did a whole party series on the blog last year, and I did a post dedicated to cake, as part of that series. So you know I am all about cake and parties…. When this book arrived at my front door and it was titled, Cake, I already knew this was right up our alley!

What’s a party without Cake?

There really is no party if there isn’t Cake…right? He has to be invited! This is his first invitation to a party and he is SUPER EXCITED! Cake has never been to a party before, so to him, all he needs to worry about is finding the perfect outfit! He enlists the help of his friend to help him choose an appropriate outfit for the occasion. The book follows Cake as he goes through different outfits and finally finds what he thinks is the ‘ONE’.

Little readers…..

Happily he heads off to the party….everybody is so excited to see him (of course!)…and then…. Candles are lit…and the singing starts! Cake is kind of scared and in reality we know cake comes to a party, but doesn’t really get to leave (unless in a takeaway box). Will Cake survive to see another day????

What a cute story to be able to review, and also one that kind of gets the kids brain going…. Uh oh…what is going to happen?? Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet took such a simple concept of a ‘cake’ and turned it into a really delightful story. It’s really easy to read as well and my 6yr old has read it probably 3 or 4 times now. The illustrations are also so well done and the book is bright and cheerful, which really speaks to a child’s visual senses. We gave this book a thumbs up!

Cake retails for between R120 to R209 and is available on Takealot, Raru and most online book retailers, as well as in stores.

Thank you to Pan Macmillan for this delightful book! All opinions and reviews are mine (and my kids) and as usual, I was not obligated to write this review.

I’m Simone, a mom of 3, a wife...obsessed with my family, makeup and books!
