The Chronicles of a Fat Gal, Once Not So Fat + { WIN a Personalised Eating Plan}
*Sigh* This is such a hard post to write….. but one that must be written I guess. If only to know that I am not alone….or to hopefully come across a story that inspires me. Like I once inspired. You see….in 2013 I was the fat girl who got off the couch. The fat girl that made a difference and changed her life. The fat girl who became the not so fat girl. A girl who lost around 30kgs! It seems like a lifetime ago…a girl I don’t know anymore, and one I sure as hell do not recognise in the mirror. I feel that Simone….she’s so far gone….. I wouldn’t recognise her in the street even if she waved and punched me in the face with her eating plan in her hand.
My friends will tell you that I was so damn annoying during that phase of my life! It was burpees this, low carb that…. I knew better (well I did) and I loved talking about it. Kind of like my makeup obsession now, but about weight training and healthy eating habits. I even tried to start a blog….but I realise now that keeping it ‘incognito’ didn’t do me any favours. Not that I could foresee ever abandoning that life. I kept it up for over 2 years when I fell pregnant with Adam. I was so sick, I couldn’t eat (yay for diet), but it also meant I was so weak, that I couldn’t train.
To go from training 3 times a week, running on Saturdays….to puking, crying and sleeping for 9 months. Not the pregnancy I envisioned for myself at all. On the plus side, I actually lost weight during the pregnancy and after birthing Adam, I was at my lowest weight in years. If I could turn back time…yes I hear you Cher. I would not have squandered that opportunity to capitalise on the additional weight loss.
Though to be fair, I recovered really badly from my 3rd C-section. Please…save the comments about how fast you healed to yourself….. I was also that mom that could go jogging after the first 2 Lucy! (Okay not really, but you know what Lucy is like!) The 3rd one killed me! Added to that a Gr 1 child, a 3yr old and a husband almost never home due to work, I was in a bad head space mentally and emotionally. Getting my sexy back, was very very low on my priority list. Until now. I hope. I recently ‘met’ a lovely online nutritionist and trainer named Carla Smith. She gave me the opportunity to receive an eating plan from her and try out her services.
About Carla
I’m a fitness expert, wellness editor and mum to a super busy three-year-old boy. With over 11 years experience in the fitness industry as a personal fitness trainer, group trainer, corporate fitness trainer, HERBEX HEALTH fitness expert, fitness model and natural body-building bikini model athlete (WPNBBU).
The process
Carla emailed a few questionnaires to me that included topics around:
- Risk Screening
- Nutrition
- Lifestyle
They covered everything from what I prefer to eat, to what my body goals are and then my weight and measurements. I also had to send her a complete food diary (pre eating plan) to show her how and what I eat on a normal day. No lies. Total honesty.
After that I received my personalised eating plan. I was really impressed with the eating plan. It literally encompassed everything that I do enjoy eating. She’s not forcing me to eat dog poop and dry weetbix everyday. There are options for breakfast, from a smoothie, to toast, to oats, to omlettes. I cannot complain or feel deprived with the variety of options she has given me. That’s where many a failed dieter has fallen…the lack of options and good food. I mean nobody gets fat because they love bland and boring food right??
Carla contacts me on Whatsapp to check in on me and she’s just a message away when I need her. I haven’t met her in real life, but what struck me about her, is that she genuinely seems to care. To want to help me get to the body I want. She also offers online training plans and I think her prices are really reasonable for the level of service!
Carla has kindly offered up a FREE online consult and eating plan to one of my readers! If you feel you need some direction with your eating, Carla is your girl and you’ll definitely want to try to win this!

I applud you for writing this post. It can’t have been easy. My weight is also a constant struggle because of my eating habits. Right now I’m 17kgs away from my body goal and it feels impossible to get there with just training. Also I need to start being an example for my kids because chocolate, malva pudding and custard and sweets are not healthy breakfast options. I can’t wait to hear about your journey 😘

I love running but every year as I get a bit older, I realise that in order to keep running healthy and strong I have to keep up things like going to the gym too. I have to take better care of my body because to be honest, I’m no spring chicken anymore…this year I’ll be 36. (gasp) So instead of just having 2018 Running Goals, it’s running with a dash of healthy living mixed in, like for example, I need to be (a lot) Easier on Myself – I’m hard on myself, really hard. So I plan on being easier on myself in all areas of my life. Being a nicer person (to me) will lead to less stress, therefore, more happiness. #hardestfitnessandbodygoalever

I, like you Simone, weighed 16kgs more than I do know but for the past 4 years I had maintained 22kg weighloss. Unfortunately I can see it slipping away, I gained 8kgs and try as I might I can’t shake it. My eating plan from my previous weighloss journey doesn’t seem to be working or maybe my willpower is now diminished. It’s difficult to accept that you were once at your goal weight and see yourself slip back.

Oh my word! Speaking to the choir here!!! I was at my slimmest before I fell pregnant in 2015. Only put on 10kgs through my pregnancy and lost it all within 3 months. Then PND hit and it hit hard except it was undiagnosed until Feb 2017! Shock horror. And during that time I piled on the weight now weighing 1kg more than the day I gave birth 2,5 years ago! Oh I need to lose weight and this prize would be amazing!!!

I have always had issues with my weight and and an unhealthy relationship with food. I’d so love an eating plan that is ideal for me, where I can lose weight and feel healthy as well! Megan xx

I’ve always had issues with my weight but when I was pregnant in 2010 I ended up picking up 30kgs. I lost 10kgs after that but then with my son being very sick and in hospital and eventually passing on a few years later, I picked it all up again and then some. Now that we are trying for another baby, it would be great to lose as much as I can and be healthy before the new bundle is there, which has been a real struggle because the motivation is just not there for long. Having someone to motivate would be amazing!

Well my dear friend.. firstly let me commend for writing this post.. secondly you were a real inspiration to me… pushing me.. driving me…to the point where I dropped to the floor not to do a push up.. But Caus I could no longer keep up with you lol. Needless to say..i haven’t been for a run since 1 August last year… can’t look face.
I didn’t find you annoying with your healthy talk and listening to your sessions you had with your PT and how you nearly died… many times.
I used to feel so Sorry for you during your pregnancy.. Caus I would sit at your place and have something yummy… and you’d be sitting and eating ice..Caus that’s all you could manage to keep down.
So thank you for writing this post… Caus there are so many women out there who can relate to your stories… and as always.. Thanks for keeping it real. Mwa
Oh… if I win I’d give it to someone I know is struggling to get to their goal weight…
Thanks for another awesome post

My tummy has always been a problem area. It’s where all the extra calories seem to go. I’ve been trying to incorporate healthier habits since the birth of my child, but it’s a slow process.
