Mascara empties and what I’d repurchase

A brow pencil, mascara and a lip balm….those are possibly the only 3 makeup related items that I cannot live without. If you wanted to take everything away, these are the 3 I’d beg to keep. I’d sacrifice the lip balm if I had to only keep 2…..but please…don’t make me choose. Heaven know choosing my 5 favourite eyeshadow palettes was hard enough! The problem I have with mascara, is that I LOVE mascara!! I have short, stubby and super bald lashes, so I’m always on the hunt for a mascara that will do it all. Volume, length and it must be the pitchest black mascara in the world! I reluctantly emptied out my mascara drawer last week and decided to do this post. I cannot use mascara past 3 months or my eyes react badly. Some of these I pushed for 6 months and it was a nightmare for my poor eyes.

Let’s go through my mascara empties and see if I’d repurchase any of them.

1. L’Oreal Telescopic Extra-Black Mascara

I first spotted this mascara on Carli Bybel’s You Tube channel and I knew I had to try it. I think she possibly uses the waterproof version, as our tubes do not look the same, but that aside, this mascara is AMAZING! The wand is a silicone wand (my wand of choice) and it seperates, lifts, volumises and gives me pitch black lashes. Just the way I like my lashes! I posted more about this mascara in my September 2017 favourites, so you can read more there.

Would I repurchase? Hell yes!

2. La Petite Robe Noire Black Lashdress Mascara

This mascara I was fortunate enough to win from the makeup godfather, Dave Lackie. This was an interesting mascara in that it has a brush head unlike anything I’ve seen before. Though recently I’ve spotted the Wet n Wild Lash Renegade mascara and the brush seems similar in terms of the ball at the tip.

The packaging on this mascara is so luxurious and different. I really battled with the ball and I found I really had to learn how to use this brush. The formula is really nice and thin, so you can build it up and I found that I never got any clumping irrespective of how many coats I applied. This gave me a very natural, full looking lash. It’s not a dramatic mascara at all. Also this mascara had a lovely subtle scent that I didn’t mind.

Would I repurchase? Unfortunately at this price point, no I would not.

Do you wear falsies or get lash extensions? I like extensions, but they seem to irritate my eyes. So as a result, I’m a mascara gal….I love love love testing new mascaras😍🎉 . I purchased this 3-in-1 mascara from @woolworths late last year and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by it. It elongates, separates and adds volume. Not va va voom volume, but it’s lovely for everyday wear. The formula isn’t too watery or too thick…the formula reminds me a bit of the Roller Lash by Benefit. . . It doesn’t flake or transfer on me…and I find it stays put until I remove it. . Definitely one of my favourite new finds of 2017. . #MiniReview #mascara #Woolworths #beauty #Makeup #black #lashes #picoftheday #instapic #blogger #BeautyBlogger #sabloggerscafe #samomblogger #budgetbeauty #flatlays

3. Woolworths Eyes 3-in-1 Mascara

I picked this up after seeing Candice from In My Bag review some Woolworths makeup products. This mascara really impressed me. For the price I thought it did a pretty good job. I find most ‘multi purpose’ mascaras don’t really deliver on volume, and this one for me is not really volumising, but it’s a really natural looking black lash that I like for a regular work day. It adds good length which I love! I picked this up during a beauty festival, so that always saves some cash.

Would I repurchase? Definitely.

4. Essence Volume Stylist 18hr Lash Extension Mascara

Tati raves about this mascara and I think I’ve seen a few people recommend it here in South Africa as well. I just didn’t get the hype and as a result, didn’t enjoy this mascara. I think the brush was so stiff and big, that I couldn’t really get it through my lashes? Also I thought the formula was a bit thick, so it got clumpy after 2 coats. It was okay, but nothing mind-blowing in my opinion.

Let me know if you’ve tried this one and enjoyed it. I am however a fan of the Essence Super Curl Mascara….now that one…love at first swipe for me!

Would I repurchase? I think you know the answer to this one. Nope….BUT the Super Curl, Volume Hero and even one I used to use…the Rock n Doll mascara are all good options.

Essence Super Curl vs Benefit Roller Lash brush

5. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Those of you who follow my blog know that I have been a die-hard Roller Lash mascara loving gal since the beginning of time! I love the formula of this mascara, as well as the wand. It gives such good length and the formula isn’t too wet or too dry. The wand on this is very similar to the Essence Super Curl mascara, so I’d go so far as to say the Essence mascara could be a dupe for Roller Lash. The Roller Lash brush head though, just has that extra grip as it coats each and every lash, that is ultimately what I am a fan of.

The Benefit mini’s are ideal for somebody like me that likes to try out 10 different mascaras at a time, but cannot use it past 3 months. I’m wasting a lot less product when I use a mini.

Would I repurchase? I have repurchased this 10 times probably! I would definitely repurchase, but #BadGalLash may be my new favourite Benefit mascara.

6. L’Oreal False Lash Wings Mascara

L’Oreal started and is closing out this post, which isn’t surprising, because I am a huge fan of L’Oreal’s mascaras. I’ve never used a L’Oreal mascara that I hated. Their False Lash Superstar mascara is one of my favourites as well.

Okay, back to the False Lash Wings mascara…..this was a good mascara. The brush head is curved, so it lends itself to the ‘wing’ effect they promise. The formula on this is a little thicker and wetter and can lead to clumpiness if you’re not careful. I found if I spent a while with the shape of the brush, trying to curve those lashes at the end, I could get the ‘wing’ effect. If I was in a hurry though, it’s a regular black mascara. It is volumising and a nice black mascara though, so I wasn’t too upset about not always perfecting the winged lashes.

Would I repurchase? Probably not, because I prefer 2 of their other mascaras over this one.

If this post wasn’t enough for your mascara loving soul, here’s a review on a few mascaras I did a few months ago: 4 Mascaras that blow my mind!

That’s it for my mascara empties! If you enjoy posts like these, let me know and I’ll try to do another one in a few months….because I go through A LOT of mascara! Let me know which mascaras you’ve loved, hated or even a recommendation for something for me to try.
