Sam Wu is NOT afraid of sharks! {Kids book review}
Just so you know…off the bat, that Sam Wu is NOT afraid of sharks….. Me thinks that thou dost protest too much Sam Wu! What do you all think? Today’s book review is a kiddies one, aimed at kids between the ages of 6 and 9. I always love when a book falls into that category, because…I have a 6yr old and a 9yr old! So it gets at least 2 reads in my house! #Winning right?
Before I start, just so Sam Wu is okay with this review….there were NO sharks in my pool when I took the shot of this cover 😉 All good Sam? Okay, so let’s jump into the review!
What is this book about?
Sam Wu is NOT a scaredy-cat (except when he is). And when a shark TOTALLY tries to eat him at the local aquarium, he decides he’s not going to take any more chances. So at his friend’s birthday party at the beach, Sam refuses to dip even a toe in the water. Nothing could go wrong now, could it?
A wonderful belly-laugh of a book, perfect for young fans of Tom Gates and Pamela Butchart.
My thoughts
I read the first chapter with Joshua and the humour in this book is just so good! I’m not quite sure my 6yr old gets it, but my 9yr old definitely does. I just love this sort of witty character…..you can just tell Sam Wu is loaded with drama and personality!
The font is nice and big, but not too big, so you can see it’s that transition phase between ‘Peppa Pig’ and ‘Diary of a Wimpy kid’, if that makes sense? Also the illustrations are really cute and I like the black and white illustrations and imagery. What’s also pretty darn funny, are the little clip notes at the bottom of the pages. I may have to finish this one myself when I’m in the mood for a good chuckle.
This book retails for R150 and is available at all major book retailers. Also there are 2 other books in this series as well. Do you think your kids would be fans of Sam Wu?
