Dermalogica Biolumin-C – Why you need Vitamin C in your skin care routine
When do you think of Vitamin C? If you’re like me, it’s usually when I’m in the throes of a horrible cold or the flu! I then send my husband for boxes of orange juice and Vitamin C supplements. Probably too little too late, but in my mind this helps. I’ve been a fan of Dermalogica products for a while now! However, I am going to do myself no favours with this confession, but when Dermalogica launched the Biolumin-C in July I was very excited about it, but I didn’t think much about the fact that this was a Vitamin C serum. Ahh cute….they want to make sure my skin doesn’t get a cold? Once I received the PR package with all the information on the product though, I found myself being very intrigued! Vitamin C claims to brighten and firm the skin??? Why am I only now finding out about this???? Thankfully, Dermalogica to the rescue to educate me and hopefully, save my skin! Let’s get into this review…..
What is the Dermalogica Biolumin-C?
Dermalogica’s biolumin-c serum combines an ultra-stable Vitamin C complex with advanced bio-technology – delivering the natural power of Vitamin C where it’s needed most. Biolumin-c does more than simply brighten, firm and reduce the appearance of fine lines; it enhances skin’s own defenses, giving clients brighter skin from within.
- Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate protects against free radical damage and helps even skin tone.
- Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate, one of the most stable and penetrative forms of Vitamin C that helps firm skin and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 firms skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Lactic Acid removes dulling debris, revealing brighter skin.
- Sophora Japonica Flower Extract a rich source of polyphenols with antioxidant protection.
- Salvia Hispanica (Chia Seed) Oil, rich in antioxidants, moisturizes and helps quench free radicals.
Packaging and cost?
The serum is housed in a glass bottle and the product is dispensed via a drop dispenser. The serum retails for R1 495 for 30mls.
My experience
The serum is really lightweight and has the consistency of a thickened liquid. Does that make sense?? It doesn’t feel like an oil at all. Also it has a lovely light citrus scent. I use about 3-4 drops and I apply this on my skin after cleansing, before moisturising. It sinks into the skin very nicely and leaves the skin with a very slight tackiness. Very slight. Within 2 weeks of using this I noticed that my skin appeared brighter and my tone was more even. I feel that my skin just looks more radiant and I believe the Biolumin-C has a lot to do with that. Also, after 2 months of use, I also feel that it’s helped with my pigmentation. I suffer from post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation, and I feel this helps to ensure the scarring from breakouts are reduced and not as dark. Which to me means that the pigmentation will fade easier with time and the right products.
I’ve started going for chemical peels and I feel that the peels, coupled with this serum, I’m going to see an even bigger improvement in the future! I am so excited about that! Side note: The salon where I get my peels done rave about Dermalogica products and this serum specifically!
Would I recommend it?
As I said in the beginning of this post, I was not really well versed on the role vitamin C plays in skin care. Now that I know of the benefits of Vitamin C for my skin, I will never be without this product! Also this specific product from Dermalogica is full of antioxidants, which is really going to help with enhancing the skin’s own defenses.
I know the price tag may seem a bit steep to some, but this does last for around 3 months, depending if you use it once or twice a day. So seeing as it lasts a while, I don’t think the price tag is bad and I will be repurchasing this! I definitely would recommend this serum, because I think that it would only benefit your skin! I am all about trying to have good skin these days and dealing with my pigmentation issues. Previously I shared with you the importance of wearing sunscreen, so hopefully all of this will help me win the battle against pigmentation!
New Rapid Reveal Peel
Everyone wants smoother, more radiant skin — but this kind of skin is harder to achieve with age. When we’re young, our skin sheds and replenishes cells quickly to recover from damage we acquire through our lifestyle, habits and environmental exposure. But as we age, our cell turnover slows down, resulting in longer recovery time as well as dullness, fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration.
NEW Rapid Reveal Peel has a remarkable way of erasing those signs of aging. It kick-starts skin renewal for instant radiance, speeding removal of dull cells on the surface of your skin to reveal brighter, smoother, healthier-looking skin below. This enhanced cell renewal helps make up for what the skin naturally loses over time. Best of all, there’s no downtime to the skin!
Key Ingredients and Benefits:
This convenient, at-home peel is the highest-strength retail exfoliant offered by the skin health experts at Dermalogica and The International Dermal Institute.
- A unique complex of phytoactive Alpha Hydroxy Acids helps reveal new and firmer skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by removing dulling surface debris without causing dehydration.
- Fermented plant enzymes help even skin tone by resurfacing the skin and accelerating cell turnover.
- Australian Caviar Lime Extract smoothes and brightens for a more radiant complexion.
