Happy November!! I can’t believe it’s literally the final countdown to December and 2019!! I decided to take a bit of a break this week, so apologies for being quiet. Today is Friday though, and I could not skip another #BookReviewFriday, so here I am! Parents….do I have a feature for you! ‘ You’re called what?? ‘ is a book I received from Pan Macmillan Kids recently and the one I am reviewing today. I am not sure who enjoyed this book more….the kids…or the mom! Let’s get into it first…..

What did we think?

I saw Pan Macmillan share some stories on Instagram about ‘ You’re called What?’…..like: Do these animals exist? There was a poll and I very confidently selected ‘no’ on the poll. Either they sent me a message or I got to the end of their stories and they claimed these animals do exist. I chuckled and thought…yeh right! Fried Egg Jellyfish??? Whatever Pan Macmillan!!

When this book arrived…Adam and I yanked it out, Joshua said he wanted to join us and before I knew it Addison was there too. We all took a turn to read a page….and we laughed, because there is A LOT of literal laughing in this book. Every name funnier than the previous one…and you really feel for these animals who just want to have normal sounding names. The font is really nice and easy to read…and the illustrations are so good! These animals are interesting sounding as well as interesting looking. This was a real family affair and we really enjoyed the book.

So we get to the end of the book and turn the page…..we all literally gasped! A blindside that I never saw coming…..ALL THESE ANIMALS ARE REAL!!!!!!!!!! SAY WHAT???? There….spread across 2 pages are ACTUAL pictures of these animals with some facts about them with a cute and funny sort of punchline. It was also on the last page, Addison realised we’d been reading ‘Blue-Footed BOBBY‘ and it was actually ‘Blue-Footed BOOBY‘…..another laugh out loud sort of moment. Also…the name the Aha ha Wasp wanted as a new name…..KILLED ME! You’ll have to read to find out what it was though…..

Would I recommend it?

I don’t think it’s a shock that I am going to shout YES! This book was so fun and also so educational! The kids and I were laughing, rereading and just talking about these fascinating animals for hours afterwards. The book is recommended for ages 3-5, but I’d definitely say even up to 10yrs old would enjoy this if they’re interested in animals and facts about animals.
