New Book releases – What I’m currently reading {Book review}
I was not ready for today….not by a long shot! Not only has this week just caught up with me way too quickly…I actually did not have my review lined up as I usually would. Already I just could not get a review out in time for last week’s #BookReviewFriday….. then up until lunchtime yesterday I wasn’t sure which book I’d be reviewing for today’s post! So if you’re reading this….and I put something together… go me!
These last 2 weeks have been crazy! Last week exams ended….phew….but Adam also had his concert on and the older kids had class parties. Added to that, we had 2 staff functions! Then this week?? 2 Prize givings, 2 more Staff functions. Also, it’s post month end and year-end coming up, so a gazillion deadlines! In between this I was hoping to start a new detox program, to lose 10kgs in 3 days (LOL) before the blogger meetup that happened last weekend…but alas, that did not happen. Oh did I mention it’s also Joshua’s birthday party on Saturday???
So as you can see…it’s crazy-ville for me at the moment….and I honestly have not read enough to put out a review of any kind! I thought maybe….a good idea would be to show you what I am planning to read over the next month. When it eventually gets quieter..it will get quieter right?? Penguin Books have sent over the most lovely books. I honestly get so excited to receive a delivery from them, so today I’m sharing some new books I’ve received in the last month and a bit.
Murder in Paradise – James Patterson (RSP R175)
This book actually consists of 3 stories in one book. It’s great if you’re not really into long novels, or you just want more bang for your buck. Who doesn’t love a 3 for 1 deal? I’m currently reading the 1st story in this book and interested to see where it goes!
THE LAWYER LIFEGUARD with Doug Allyn: Defense lawyer Brian Lord survived the car bomb that killed his fiancée. Out of work and out of his mind, he takes on a lifeguard job at the beach. But there’s one wave he’ll never see coming…
THE DOCTOR’S PLOT with Connor Hyde: Abi Brenner is the new medical examiner in the Napa Valley, a dream job in a dream location. But her fairy tale will take a terrifying turn when she uncovers a series of murders –with one sinister thing in common.
THE SHUT-IN with Duane Swierczynski: Confined to a studio apartment, Tricia Celanowatches the outside world through a flying drone. But when her high-tech toy records a vicious murder, she’s determined to track down the killer –a killer who knows she’s being watched.

Juror No.3 – James Patterson (RSP R290)
A RACIALLY CHARGED MURDER SPLITS A TOWN IN TWO
Ruby Bozarth, a newcomer to Rosedale, Mississippi, is also fresh to the Mississippi Bar – and she faces an impossible task defending a college football star accused of murder. The victim is a young woman from one of the town’s oldest families, and Rosedale’s upper crust are howling for blood.
Then news breaks of a second murder, and lurid, intertwining investigations unfold. Ruby discovers that no one in Rosedale can be trusted, especially the twelve men and women on the jury. They may be hiding the biggest secret of all.
My husband is currently reading this book and really enjoying it! He’s about half way….he is really begging to divulge the plot and the twists, but he knows better…I need to read it myself!
Together – Our Community Cookbook (RSP R350)
In the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower fire in London, a group of local women gathered together to cook fresh food for their families and neighbors.
Over the chatter and aromas of the kitchen they discovered the power of cooking and eating together to create connections, restore hope and normalcy, and provide a sense of home. This was the start of the Hubb Community Kitchen. Together is a storybook of this West London community, showcasing over 50 delicious recipes from the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen and including a foreword by HRH The Duchess of Sussex.
The women invite you to make their favorite simple dishes—many handed down over generations— from the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Eastern Mediterranean for you and your loved ones. Every dish tells a story of history, culture and family, and each has been developed to use few ingredients and easy methods so that anyone can cook these personal recipes.
Together features mouthwatering recipes including Green Chilli and Avocado Dip, Coconut Chicken Curry, Eggplant Masala, Persian Chicken with Barberry Rice, Caramelized Plum Upside-Down Cake, Spiced Mint Tea and lots more. This stunning charity cookbook is a homage to life, friendship and togetherness.
So technically this is not a book to read, but it’s a gorgeous book to page through! I absolutely LOVE paging through cookbooks…. I cannot wait to try some of these recipes out….everything looks amazing. Also the proceeds go to a good cause, so definitely check this out if you’re a cookbook collector as I am.
No Spin: My Autobiography – Shane Warne (RSP R320.00)
From the start of his glittering career in 1992, to his official retirement from all formats of the game in 2013, Shane Warne has long desired to tell his incredible story without compromise. No Spin is that very story. It will offer a compelling intimate voice, true insight and a pitch-side seat to one of cricket’s finest eras, making this one of the ultimate must-have sports autobiographies.
Shane is not only one of the greatest living cricket legends: he is as close as the game has had since Botham to a maverick genius on the field and a true rebel spirit off it, who always gives audiences what they want. Despite being the talismanic thorn in England’s side for nearly two decades of regular Ashes defeats, he was also much loved in the UK where he played cricket for Hampshire. He’s also a much-admired figure in India and
South Africa. Alongside his mesmerising genius as a bowler, Shane has often been a controversial figure, and in this book he’s talk with brutal honesty about some of the most challenging times in his life as a player. Honest, thoughtful, fearless and loved by millions, Shane is always his own man and this book is a testament to his brilliant career.
This one is for the hubster! Shane Warne was the man we (South Africans) all loved to hate back in the 90’s and 2000’s. I thought this would be a great book for some insight into THE Shane Warne! Also, if he’s going to spill a bit about his relationship with Liz Hurley….I may be reading a bit myself 😉
