Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation {Review}

Today we are finally going to be talking about the INFAMOUS Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation. I have ALWAYS been a budget-foundation wearer. In my opinion, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. My love for my cheaper foundation runs deep…and I never felt like I needed more. As a beauty lover though, I do love to try out things….try out foundations, especially ones specially suited to my oil slick of a face.

I purchased the Double Wear Foundation a few months ago, so this review is overdue!

What is the Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation?

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10 is a worry-free, long-wearing makeup and provides 15-hour staying power, stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity, nonstop activity. Flawless all day. Non-acnegenic.

Packaging and pricing?

The foundation is housed in a glass bottle with a gold cap. I personally think it’s really sleek and stylish, but also compact. I travel to work with it and like that it doesn’t take up too much place. My only complaint is that I’d love a pump to come standard with the foundation.

The foundation retails for R600 for 30ml (standard size) and you are able to purchase a pump seperately for around R50, but the pumps are pretty scarce.

My experience

Shade match

I had been matched at 3 different counters to ‘Cashew‘ – 3W2. Personally I kept feeling that the foundation was too warm and not matching my face. I went to an Estée Lauder counter one more time and they used their iMatch device and it ended up matching me to 4W. Thankfully the consultant had said before the device that she feels Cashew is my shade….and we opted to ignore the iMatch, as 4W was WAY too dark. I left with Cashew, happy with the shade, as I’ve come to realise I’m matching my foundation to the rest of my body….not my actual face. The actual foundation is around 2-3 shades darker than my face…but matches beautifully to my neck and shoulders.

The formula and coverage

The consistency was a lot more liquid-y than I expected. With the hype of double wear and it’s ‘amazing’ coverage…I expected it to be really thick, but I find it to be incredibly lightweight. That’s a plus I mean….nobody wants to feel like cake-face, even in the name of ‘coverage’.

This foundation is lightweight AND full coverage, BUT still manages to look so flawless and airbrushed on the skin! The finish isn’t full blown matte, I’d probably say this is a more demi-matte finish.

I find myself flirting with myself in the mirror when I am wearing this foundation. #TrueStory. I always am amazed at how good my skin looks when I wear this. It’s also the foundation that makes some of you think I have amazing skin on Instagram! I don’t use a filter at all or beauty face (beauty face is still a filter people!!)…it’s all Double Wear!

I’ve applied the Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation with a beauty sponge as well as a brush. I find that I get more coverage with a brush, but I also enjoy the more natural sheer finish a sponge gives me. That being said…for the price … I should wear this on days I want full coverage. A sheer natural finish, I can achieve with my other more affordable foundations. Right?

This foundation also contains an SPF of 10. That’s not enough for a day in the hot South African sun, but I appreciate it being there if there’s a day I forget SPF….or as an addition to the SPF already on my face.

Wear time

I usually wear this for a full day at work….upto 12 hours and the foundation still looks amazing. If there is any oil peeping through, it looks more like a glow, and not an oil slick situation.

Would I recommend it?

I recall a friend telling me about this foundation. I went on and on about how my favourite drugstore foundation was enough….. I didn’t need her Double Wear. What did she even know…? I am eating serious humble pie…and saying: Charmaine….this foundation is indeed worth the money and your love for it! I am at the stage where I look for promotions so I can start buying backup bottles…as well as a shade for Winter.

In case it’s not clear ..HELL yes I’d recommend this foundation! Go out and get yourself a sample.… I don’t think you’d regret it. This comes in 55 shades…so also, hell yes to inclusivity and diversity…there should be a shade for everybody!

Are you more of a drugstore foundation gal, or have you fallen in love with THE Double Wear foundation as I have?

PS I still have a Gliss Intense Hamper up for grabs in this post! You have until the 8th of March to enter!
