Tarte Shape Tape vs Revolution’s Conceal and Define Concealer {Is it a dupe?}

Happy Monday gals! I know, suspiciously upbeat for a Monday morning, but….it’s a short week, so the excitement of that fact runs through my veins. Though if I could be fussy, I’d have preferred Monday or Friday….but I’ll take Wednesday. Moving along….the point of today’s post….. Do we have a dupe in the Makeup Revolution’s Conceal and Define concealer when we compare it to the WORLD FAMOUS Shape Tape from Tarte? You need to keep reading to find out…..

When I started watching You Tube videos (if I had a dollar for every time I say that in a post…a tale as old as time….) Shape Tape was basically referred to as the 8th Wonder of the World. No jokes. Every single You Tuber used Tarte Shape Tape. After watching 1007 videos featuring the product, a girl knew….she too needed to have The Shape Tape. I ordered mine online, directly from the US about a year back. Shape Tape ain’t cheap….so I always fear the day I run out. Then one day, the Conceal and Define concealer hit the shelves….and the beauty world went nuts! A cheaper alternative, but as good as THE Shape Tape? I needed to know.

Is it a dupe?

What are these concealers about?

Tarte Shape Tape promises:

  • Full coverage with flawless matte finish
  • Conceals all imperfections & doubles as a contour/highlight product
  • Creamy, easy-to-blend formula won’t flake or crease
  • Nourishes with mango seed & shea butters
  • Helps illuminate skin for a lifted effect
  • 30 shades

MUR Conceal and Define Concealer promises:

  • Lightweight full coverage to even skin tone
  • Hide blemishes and dark circles
  • Brighten your complexion
  • Matte finish that applies delicately with a doe foot applicator
  • 25 shades

Pricing and packaging

The Tarte Shape Tape retails for R410 (10mls ) on the US website. That excludes shipping and potential customs. The concealer is housed in a glass-like plastic tube with a very large doe foot applicator.

Makeup Revolution’s Conceal and Define retails for R105 (3.4mls) and you can purchase it as Clicks stores or online. Like Shape Tape, the Conceal and Define is also housed in a glass-like plastic tube with a large (but not as large) doe foot applicator.

NOTE: Per ml, Shape Tape is still more expensive, but do take note that MUR is not as cheap as it sounds. Shape Tape contains 3 times the amount of product that the Conceal and Define does.

Application and wear time

Both of these concealers have a thick consistency and give a full coverage, but I do feel Shape Tape has the edge on the coverage. I like the applicators on both, and even though Shape Tape’s applicator is larger, I just turn it on its side to use less product.

With the wear test, I wore a different concealer on each side of my face, under my eyes and I felt both sides looked pretty good. As mentioned though, Shape Tape gives me a bit more coverage. I’m not a colour correcting kind of gal, so I love that one swipe takes care of everything.

Both concealers are pretty matte and dry fast, so make sure to hydrate under the eyes to prevent unnecessary creasing. I always use an eye cream first.

Left: MUR, Right: Shape Tape. Shape Tape has more yellow undertones, MUR is more pink, but I didn’t really match the shades when I made the purchase.

Do we have a dupe?

As far as packaging and wear time go, I think they’re pretty close. The formula is definitely not identical, but by the end of 10hrs I thought my under eyes looked the same. So I’d call this a dupe and I definitely think the MUR concealer is a pretty good buy if you ever wanted to try Shape Tape, but either access or coins is an issue.

What do you think? Do you own either of these concealers? What is your go-too concealer?
