A toiletry range created for tweens: Introducing Motley Crew!
Hands up if you’re living the tween life at the moment? By the end of this year, I officially have 2 Tweens! My word, my kids are growing up way too fast for my liking! Moving along…. today I’m introducing you to Motley Crew Body Brew, a brand that aims to offer all South African Tweens the opportunity to have their very own range of toiletries. Fun to look at, easily available and proudly South African! I received this email about a new toiletry range, just for Tweens and I was quite excited. I completely understand the need to create a brand like this. My older kids are too old for Paw Patrol and Barbie…..but the toiletry aisle seems so uninviting for kids aged 8-12 in my opinion. Wanna learn more? Then keep reading!
Why a range for Tweens?
Co-founder, Luisa Malan said, “Tweens between the ages of 8 – 12 find themselves in a “toiletry vacuum” where they don’t quite identify with the Barbie and Superman products any longer but aren’t ready for, or engaged with toiletry products aimed at teenagers with specific skin requirements.”
With this in mind, founders Stella Bischoff, Luisa Malan and Karin Hopkinson, all with kids of their own and struggling to find appropriate products for them, set about developing and creating a range that was all inclusive, funky, age appropriate and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
The result, was the Motley Crew – “Motley Crew offers kids choice. It provides them with an identity and sense of ownership. It helps raise their cool factor and makes them feel important”, commented co-founder Stella Bischoff. “Whether you’re looking for a Detangler to unscramble your tangle, or a Facewash to hit the zits and grime, everyone is welcome in the Motley Crew”.
The unique design and artwork was developed by experienced graphic designer, Karin Hopkinson, who aimed at creating a look that was gender neutral, bright, fun, cool and above all, steered away from anything “too baby-ish”. “I wanted to design something, that Tweens would be proud to pull out of their sports bag or display in their bathroom”, said Karin.

Addison’s thoughts?
Addison received the following:
Face wash, face cream, strong hold gel, roll on and body cream.
Off the bat, Addison was really excited about receiving products aimed at her age group. I showed her the pictures and asked if she’d want to review it and she didn’t hesitate! She’s already finished the hair gel…she doesn’t play around, and she also LOVES the face products. I think those may be her favourite, as she keeps saying her skin feels so nice after using it. She does have an existing skin care routine, but there’s something about this range, that really ensures that I don’t need to remind her every single morning to wash her face! The packaging, the name, the way she says her skin feels….I suppose all those factors play into it. She even remembers to put lotion on her knees now! Moms….the struggle is real with those grey ass knees she heads to school with! LOL.
The range definitely gets a thumbs up from us, and she can’t wait to try the body wash and hair products. If I could provide one ‘con’, it would be that the face cream doesn’t contain an SPF. I think that would be amazing if it did, but this is a new brand, so who knows what we’ll still see from them in the future!

How interesting, I’ve left the preteen stage behind me now but I would be interested to use the face wash for Emma as a starter something… She might actually be excited to try the rest of the range too… This is definitely something missing in the market.

I actually think it’s a lovely starter face wash from the ‘drug store’ for preteens, and even teens. Age ain’t nothing but a number 😉

This sure looks like a great range!!
I’ll be sure to try them out!

These products sound like a good motivation for them to use on their own, without one having to remind them, hopefully.
I will try this out
Thanks for the heads up 🙂
