My 6 Best Beauty Discoveries of 2019!

I know…it’s almost Valentine’s day, and here I am talking about 2019! What can I say, this January was a bit of a go-slow on my side…..and by now you know my motto, Better Late Than Never! FACT – I did not buy a lot of products in 2019. Towards the end of 2018, I had an epiphany that I had enough, too much…and with some months only having one salary, I needed to start being more responsible. So while everybody was ‘no-buy’ this….’low-buy’ that, I was just trying to keep our heads above water. That sticks with me through 2020…..having enough, and still trying to keep my head above water. Life line, lotto numbers anybody? With either not buying much and very minimal PR, I really got to use my products…new and old. Today I’ll try to focus on the new….and share with you my favourite beauty discoveries of 2019!

Wet n Wild Sponge Applicator {RSP R59,95}

I LOVE trying new sponges, but for the most part, they are pricey purchases. A ‘cheaper’ sponge is between R100 – R250. An original BeautyBlender is what…R400 upwards? I’ve definitely dialed it down with purchasing new sponges….until I spotted the Wet n Wild sponge in Clicks. For R59,95, I wasn’t expecting too much, BUT it is Wet n Wild….and they do make fantastic budget friendly makeup. I can say without a doubt, this sponge was one of my favourite purchases in 2019! It is super soft, doesn’t absorb too much product and blends my foundation like a dream. I am also really a fan of the teardrop shape and the flat tip. Many of you have bought this on my recommendation, and besides 2 DM’s to the contrary, most of you love it as much as I do.

Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Brow Perfector {RSP R370}

You know…I am a Benefit brow gal and have been for years. When I received this in PR, I thought: do I really need another brow product? Also this has a 3rd component in the middle, a cushion powder applicator, and I wondered if it was all a bit gimmicky. Gals, in 2020, this is THE ONE! I use the shade ’04’, brown, and it is the PERFECT match for my brows. Some days the darker shades of other pencils can make my brows look a bit harsh, especially on no make up days. I find with this pencil, my brows can look as natural, or as snatched as I want them to. Also the cushion powder portion, does such a great job of filling the brows in for a more natural look/fill. It’s very forgiving if you need to fix a badly drawn line as well, where you are able to manipulate and fade the product if need be.

Honestly, obsessed with this pencil! I think if you’re a newbie to brow pencils, or a pro….both would love this product!

L’Oreal Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation {RSP R239}

This L’Oreal foundation blew up the internet in 2019! It featured on so many You Tube channels and favourite videos, everybody and their mother’s cousin was raving about this one! I’ve always been a fan of L’Oreal’s foundations, the Infallible Matte being an absolute favourite, so I was keen to try this one out. Needless to say, the hype is real! L’Oreal once again knocked it out of the park with this foundation. Good coverage, this isn’t dewy, nor is it matte….somewhere in between, but I love it. This also has a good wear time…at least 8 – 12hrs. I don’t wear foundation for longer than that, so I cannot testify to 12 plus hours. In Winter this is my go-too foundation. In Summer, I mix it with something like my Double Wear, just to give more life to my more matte foundations. The 2 foundations work really well together.

6 best beauty discoveries

Oh So Heavenly Sole Therapy Overnight Foot Treatment {RSP R36,00}

If you know me, you know I don’t like to talk about feet, so I’ll try to skim over this one. One day a 3-for-2 promotion kind of intrigued me and I figured, this is so affordable, why not try their Sole Therapy range out? Usually, I like a foot cream to contain more than 10% Urea, and this contains 25%….so I was happy to give it a go. I purchased the Overnight Foot Treatment, as well and the Heel and Callus Balm.  Both of these products really impressed me and I’ve since repurchased it. I feel like this really nourishes and softens those dry/hardened areas.

I wouldn’t recommend that you walk around after applying though…make sure you put this on your feet when you’re getting into bed. Even better, let your significant other give you a foot rub and apply before getting into bed 😉 If you can stand socks, I’m sure that would also improve the absorption of the product. I can’t stand socks though, so I’m just guessing.

6 Best Beauty Discoveries

Yardley Rain Coat Mascara {RSP R99,95}

This product is marketed as a top coat for lashes and brows. Full disclaimer….I only use this for brows. I do assume it’d be a good waterproof layer aver a non-waterproof mascara. For brows though, this is an awesome product. It gives me those feathery brows, or I can have them really sleek, depending how I use it. Also, my brows stay put all day! My only complaint is that the brush is ginormous, but that’s because of the lash option as well. I wish they’d make a smaller version just for brows.

Revlon So Fierce Mascara {RSP R169}

I was so BUMMED when I saw my favourite….Tati, declare that this mascara was nothing special and that she didn’t like it. Say what Tati?? I’ve come to realise that Tati and I have VERY different tastes when it comes to mascara. I’ve tried 2 she raves about, and I hated them both. So to each his…um her own right? I really like this So Fierce mascara from Revlon. It’s pitch black, and adds a lot of drama and volume to my lashes. This also doesn’t flake and it lasts all day on my lashes.

Honourable mentions

I don’t want this post to get too long, so these are just some additional beauty discoveries that deserve a quick mention.

  • Elizabeth Arden Great 8 Daily Defense Moisturizer – Light-weight, oil free and contains an SPF. On my 2nd tube at the moment. OBSESSED!
  • The Ellips Hair Vitamin Capsules…..gals these little capsules changed the hair game! Truly, one of the most fabulous products I tried in 2020. Full review is up in an older post, so hence why I’m not giving it a full feature in today’s post.
  • Lush’s Yog Nog Shower gel – I was always a Snow Fairy gal, and I still am, but this golden caramel pudding scented goodness is just divine!! This surprised me, because I didn’t think I’d be into a scent like this. I’ve banned my husband from using it, because he was enjoying it too much!
  • Nair Sensitive Hair Removal cream – This cream contains Camellia Oil and Ylang-Ylang. I have sensitive skin on my legs, so shaving wrecks me a lot. I really enjoyed this cream, I had ZERO irritation and no itchy skin afterwards.

All my honourable mentions were received in PR, but hopefully you know me well enough to know that is not the reason they appear on this list.

I am going to have to reign in it now and end this post….. because I think there’s still quite a few favourite beauty products discoveries of 2019, that I haven’t listed here. Let me know what some of your favourite beauty discoveries of 2019 were in the comments below.
