The Benefits of LEGO
How is everybody keeping their kids entertained and happy during lockdown? I won’t lie…..my kids have had more gaming hours in the last 100 days than they probably would have had in their whole life, if there was no lockdown. We are homeschooling at the moment as well, so it’s a tough situation, to balance school work and fun. That’s where Lego comes in though…. My kids won’t really give up their gaming consoles for much, but with LEGO….it’s pretty much a no brainer. They will switch off the electronics and play for hours! What I love about LEGO is that not only is it fun, it’s also sneaky educational 😉
We received a LEGO Classic Windows of Creativity set to review a few weeks ago and I was a bit skeptical. Usually I get my boys a more structured set, so I worried this would perhaps be too ‘basic’ for them. Boy was I wrong…. this set was and continues to be soooo much fun! What’s great about the Classic set is:
- Includes a wide selection of windows and doors, plus a colorful mix of LEGO® pieces including eyes, wheels, hinges and bricks for kids to create classic LEGO toys.
- Features bright and colorful LEGO® bricks and pieces that allow for open-ended creative play.
- This construction toy provides 3 levels of building complexity for budding LEGO® builders.
- Visit LEGO.com/classic for additional building instructions, fun videos, ideas and inspiration.
- Comes with a brick separator to make LEGO® building and rebuilding easier.
- Let creativity grow with LEGO® Classic building kits!
- This set includes 450 pieces.
- This LEGO® building set offers an age-appropriate build and play experience for ages 4+.
- Refer creativity point below – Adam’s dream home apparently!
Why choose Lego?
I believe that LEGO has a whole range of benefits for our kids. Some of them being:
- It encourages teamwork – My boys love building together, and even more so, they love building with me or their dad.
- Improvement of fine motor skills – They need to use those fingers to get the job done!
- Stimulates the imagination and creativity – You can build absolutely anything that your mind can imagine (provided you have enough pieces of course 😉 )
- Problem solving – Looking for those pieces, adjusting where need be.
- Improved self-esteem – Our kids feel accomplished when they’re done with their creations.
I feel that there is obviously a role for the structured sets, as well as the freedom that comes with the Classic sets. The Classic sets just contribute a bit more to that imagination factor, that I personally feel kids are lacking these days.

Cooper loves all kinds of Lego but ninjago is the flavour of the month. What I love is the togetherness it brings when building the sets. Makes me feel like a child again. This will be a perfect gift for his birthday.

My kids and their cousins have become Lego crazed. Whether it’s a summersday and they sit outside on a blanket and build lego’s or a cold wintersday inside, Lego keeps them busy for hours and thankfully limits their screen time, as I worry tgat they’ll become tv-zombies!

My kids love Lego, granted we only do the tiny pieces when the 2 year old is sleeping because But the duplo gets used every single day since that is chocking proof. It is part of our daily free play hour (win win they are learning team work and fine running their motor skills; while mama gets some free unhindered time) They love the creativity that it encourages and using your imagination. They don’t Always follow the manual and enjoy coming up with their own surprise builds. And when mama is feeling brave I join in and we use it as quality time spent together
Jessica McClean
We LOVE lego! Playing with Duplo blocks helped my tiny humans learn their colours and counting as well as solidified their little friendship as they build together and help one another.
