New Skincare Products I’ve been loving in 2020!
With me working from home these days, my makeup wearing days are far and few between. I do my makeup for the odd Zoom meeting and occasionally just to play around. In the absence of makeup though, skincare has become my new obsession…. Also, I am turning the big FOUR OH in December, so I think I’m also starting to chase the clock in terms of the point of no return with my skin. I know we’re in a time where we can live our best lives with whatever bodies, skin and hair we choose…..but I’ve just always wished for skin free of pigmentation and acne breakouts đ So for today’s post…. I’ve been testing out some new skincare products and thought I’d share some of my faves with you.
La Roche Posay Effaclar Micro Peeling Purifying Gel {RSP R370)
What a mouthful! I am such a fan of the Effaclar range from La Roche-Posay, so I love trying products in this line. With this cleanser, ‘Micro Peeling‘ had me so curious, so I added to cart at lightning speed.
Key ingredients include 2% Salicylic Acid that helps to unclog pores, refine skin texture, and prevent blemish-reoccurrence. Lipo-Hydroxy Acid (LHA) gently exfoliates and refines pores. Zinc deeply purifies the skin and helps reduce sebum. Menthol has soothing and antibacterial properties as well as a refreshing effect. Fragrance-free. Hypoallergenic. Physiological pH. Dermatologically and allergy-tested.
I’m always looking for Salicylic acid and lately Zinc is also an ingredient I like seeing on my ingredients list. This cleanser is not stripping at all and I love that it comes in a pump bottle. This 400ml is going to last me forever and I picked it up at Dischem.
Skin Functional’s Texture and Blemish Tonic {RSP R250}
A daily tonic that smoothes skin texture and tone for a natural glow. Salicylic Acid exfoliates and provides quicker cell renewal to minimise the appearance of blemishes, large pores and fine lines.
As somebody who battles with breakouts, gimme ALL the Salicylic acid! I love this tonic/toner, because it’s so gentle on the skin, but it’s doing a job….fighting my pimples. This tonic is fragrance free and #proudlySouthAfrican. My only complaint? I just wish this came in a bigger bottle.
Clarins Total Eye Lift {RSP R1 080}
Powered by Organic Harungana, this innovative, all-in-one eye contour care acts on visible signs of skin agingâfrom temple-to-temple: deep wrinkles, crowâs feet, puffiness and dark circles. Visibly lifts and illuminates eyes for a more youthful look.
The first place that I have started ageing is definitely around the eye area…. I’ve noticed lines starting under my eyes and even my eyelids are starting to lose elasticity! *sob* When I saw the Total Eye Lift from Clarins was launching, I knew I wanted to try this! Besides the innovative ingredients, I love that this is a TOTAL EYE ‘cream’. You apply it under the eyes, all the way to the temples, between the brows and even on the lids and lashes. My undereye area is a lot more hydrated and I feel that even my concealer looks better since using this product.
Before I move to the next product, can we take a moment for this bottle? The red is so stunning and eye-catching. The bottle also feels so luxe, it has a good weight, so feels expensive, also it’s made of 25% recycled glass and the bottle is 100% recyclable. I absolutely love that!

Elizabeth Arden’s Vitamin C Ceramide Capsules {RSP R1 095}
178X more potent than traditional vitamin C1, this satiny dry oil serum helps to visibly brighten skin, even tone and protect against premature aging signs. See visibly brighter skin after just one use.
I’ve spoken a lot about the need to include Vitamin C in my skin care routine, and so to have that coupled with the cult favourite Ceramide Capsules from Elizabeth Arden is definitely exciting! I do find this to be more of an ‘oil’ compared to the Retinol capsules, so that took some getting used to, because this does take a bit longer to sink into the skin. That aside though, I really love how this nourishes my skin and it definitely lightens my pigmentation caused by breakouts.
Face Mask – Skoon Oh Sherbet Mask {RSP R595}
Anchoic acid + probiotic clay mask helps clear pores and exfoliate dull skin.
Guys….the Oh Sherbet mask is AH-MAZING! This brightens my skin, makes it feel so smooth….and also I’ve had (I know I’m going to regret typing this) no breakouts since I started using this mask. I had one pimple and it was dried overnight after using this. I love the fact that it contains Azelaic Acid and Kaolin clay….both good ingredients for acne. This mask does tingle a bit on first application, depending on your skin type….but definitely nothing crazy and by the 2nd time I used it, I had no tingling.
Side note: I did have to return my first mask as there was an issue with it, but my replacement mask is 100% fine.
Johnson & Johnsons Body Care Deep Clean + Protect Body Wash {RSP R42,99}
JOHNSONâSÂŽÂ Body Care Deep Clean & Protect Body Wash with Almond Blossom combines a deep clean action with a 100% naturally derived moisturiser.
These work together to offer a GERM guard that:
– Washes away 99% of germs *, sweat and dirt
– Leaves skin fresh and scented
– Preserves skinâs natural moisture
I’ve been enjoying the Johnson & Johnson’s Body Washes! I’ve been using the Sea Salt variant and I love the scent…..it just smells so clean. Almond Blossom is also a lovely scent, very rich and luscious, but not sickly sweet. These body washes foam well and don’t leave my skin feeling stripped. I don’t use body wash for consecutive showers, because I do have skin that is easily irritated…..but I’ve definitely had no issues using it every other day.
That’s a wrap up of the new skincare products I’ve been loving lately! I had a compliment the other day that my skin is looking good…. I’d gone makeup free, so I was quite chuffed that somebody noticed that my skin care routine is paying off. I can assure you, nobody ever tells me I have good skin…unless I’m wearing foundation, because they don’t know what lurks beneath….lol.
Let me know if there are any new skincare products you’ve been trying and enjoying…..so I know what to pick up next đ Also, curious about any of these?
