Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure {Kid’s Book Review}

It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve uploaded a kid’s book review on the blog! We’ve been juggling so many balls since Covid hit, that with homeschooling and working from home, making my kids read was sadly not a priority. Thankfully, life feels a tad bit more structured at the moment, so my kids are reading again. I am going to be uploading kids book reviews more often…I promise! The reason I am kicking it off with Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure is because this was loved and read by 2 of my kids. Mama loves a book that can multitask. To find a book that my 11yr old turned-12-today-year-old and my 8yr old can both read and enjoy?? That’s a win in my book!

What is Rowely Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure about?

Adventure awaits!

From the imagination of Rowley Jefferson comes an adventure of epic proportions. Join Roland and his best friend, Garg the Barbarian, as they leave the safety of their village and embark on a quest to save Roland’s mom from the White Warlock. Will our heroes survive?

What my kids thought

Addison has long since been a fan of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. From the time she was about 7 or 8 I reckon, she devoured every single book and she still does! When Rowley came along, it was a natural progression for her to read those books too. Even though I reckon she’s getting too old for them, she really still enjoys them. In her words:

This book was really funny and I enjoyed the adventure. When Rowley breaks the 4th wall, those were the most fun parts.

Okay, I had to ask what exactly the ‘4th wall’ was… Apparently when the protagonist speaks directly to the reader. Live and learn hey??

So Joshua is 8 and I need to confess that he is not a fan of the original Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, even though he has read a few of them. However, he absolutely LOVES Rowley’s book. After this one he told me that he hoped a new book would be coming out VERY soon, because he can’t wait to read about Rowley again. He read this book in 2 sittings over 2 days.

Overall

Rowley Jefferson’s Awesome Friendly Adventure is definitely a hit with both my kids, who are around 3yrs apart in age. If you have kids between 8 and 12, who are fans of the original series, we highly recommend this book! I will always encourage you to add a book to the Christmas stocking or as an additional birthday gift. You’ll never regret encouraging your kids to read 🙂

You can pick up a copy of Rowley’s latest adventure at all leading book retailers.
