Blindsighted, By Karin Slaughter {Book Review}

It’s no secret that I am officially in a committed relationship with Karin Slaughter! After reading The Last Widow and then The Silent Wife, I knew I needed more. Thankfully Karin has A LOT more…so I went back to the beginning! Blindsighted is her first novel in the Grant County Series, published back in 2001!! Talk about a blast from the past…. I can tell you, from the very first book, Karin’s writing style was established and I definitely feel like her writing doesn’t feel dated, even 19yrs later!

What is Blindsighted about?

A small Georgia town erupts in panic when a young college professor is found brutally mutilated in the local diner. But it’s only when town pediatrician and coroner Sara Linton does the autopsy that the full extent of the killer’s twisted work becomes clear. Sara’s ex-husband, police chief Jeffrey Tolliver, leads the investigation — a trail of terror that grows increasingly macabre when another local woman is found crucified a few days later. But he’s got more than a sadistic serial killer on his hands, for the county’s sole female detective, Lena Adams — the first victim’s sister — wants to serve her own justice. But it is Sara who holds the key to finding the killer. A secret from her past could unmask the brilliantly malevolent psychopath .. or mean her death.Karin Slaughter

My Review

Characters and Storyline

We already know I am a huge fan of Sara Linton, and she is the reason that I wanted to know more. I needed to know more about her and Jeffrey, more about their marriage, divorce and everything else that follows. I don’t want to say too much to spoil any of it for you, so I will stop there.

I’ve read 4 Karin Slaughter books now and so far, the plots and story lines have all been quite diverse. However, there is a theme w.r.t how graphic and violent the crimes are against women. I’m not sure why it’s always so excruciatingly brutal….. So be warned if you are a more sensitive reader.

My Thoughts

The storyline for Blindsighted was very interesting and for me, pivotal in just grounding Sara as the protagonist of the series. We get a lot of history and knowing what happens 18 books later, I enjoy reading and going ‘ahhh’ as I connect the puzzle pieces.

I can’t fault Karin’s writing…I enjoy every single word that she writes. The book flowed well, the chapters are a good length and the pace of the book is perfect. The crimes were horrific and everybody was a suspect to me at some stage. I did know who the killer would be, BUT the why was the big mystery for me, and Karin definitely delivered there.

My Rating

Blindsighted has a Goodreads rating of 4.09 stars and I’m inclined to agree. It’s a 4 star read for me! If you love crime/psychological thrillers, then I definitely think that you’ll enjoy Blindsighted. A friend of mine picked this one up at Bargain Books for around R89, so it’s definitely the perfect stocking filler for yourself or a book-loving friend this Christmas 😉

Have I convinced you that you need to read a Karin Slaughter book yet???
