Falling, by TJ Newman {Book Review}

Does anybody remember the movie ‘Speed’ from the 90’s? (Really showing my age here….lol) Today’s book, Falling.…reminds me of Speed, but the aerodynamic version.

What is Falling about?

You just boarded a flight to New York.

There are one hundred and forty-three other passengers onboard.

What you don’t know is that thirty minutes before the flight your pilot’s family was kidnapped.

For his family to live, everyone on your plane must die.

The only way the family will survive is if the pilot follows his orders and crashes the plane.

Enjoy the flight.

My Thoughts

Save your family or save the 144 passengers on your flight? That’s the dilemma our pilot faces in Falling. Personally, I have NO idea what I’d do in this situation, so already this makes for an interesting plot for a book.

Falling was indeed a page turner and I read this book at record breaking speed. I found the characters (especially the flight crew) to be quite memorable and they really brought the story to life. There was so much action, both on the ground and in the air, that I felt that Falling maintained a great pace all the way through.

All the time I read this, I thought: This would make such a great movie!! I believe that the author actually has gotten a movie deal with Universal Pictures, so I definitely am quite excited for when that is eventually released. Interestingly enough, TJ Newman was a flight attendant at some stage in her life….so I think that explains why she did so well with the flight crew characters. I honestly can’t wait to see their characters brought to life on screen in the future.

What I didn’t enjoy, was probably the motive of the bad guy. That part just fell a bit flat for me personally.

My Rating

Falling has a Goodreads rating of 4.01 stars, and I’m pretty close to agreeing with that, giving it 3.5 stars. If you’re looking for a ‘light’ thriller, or a book to get you over a book hangover, Falling will be perfect. This was action packed from beginning to end and is would be great as a beach or pool side read.

Falling is available at all leading book retailers and retails for around R330, but is currently on promotion for R245 on Takealot.

Disclaimer: Jonathan Ball Publishers sent Falling to me in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
