I Have Something to Tell You, by Susan Lewis {Book Review}

Psst….I have something to tell you…..September has been a really slow reading month for me! Urgh….I get so annoyed with myself when I don’t read more, but I really needed the time off. I finished Susan Lewis’ newest offering, I Have Something to Tell You, and I feel like I’m ready to get back in the saddle with my books 😉

What’s I Have Something to Tell You about?

High-flying lawyer Jessica Wells has it all. A successful career, loving husband Tom and a family she adores. But one case – and one client – will put all that at risk.

Edward Blake. An ordinary life turned upside down – or a man who quietly watched television while his wife was murdered upstairs? With more questions than answers and a case too knotted to unravel, Jessica suspects he’s protecting someone…

Then she comes home one day and her husband utters the words no one ever wants to hear. Sit down… because I’ve got something to tell you…

Now Jessica must fight not only for the man she defends, but for the man she thought she trusted with her life – her husband.

My Thoughts

I always find the plots of Susan’s books really interesting, and this book is no exception! Immediately, reading the back cover, I wanted this book and I was keen to get stuck in. There are interesting characters, a tragic murder and then the mystery of what Jessica’s husband will be telling her….

I completely expected, from the blurb, that what the husband wanted to tell her, had to do with the case. So I had all these scenarios in my head, but turns out I was wrong, because it had nothing to do with the case. Kudos to Susan for tricking me on that aspect. BUT, this ‘something to tell you‘, literally came almost 200 pages in….I felt like for something that hooked me to the book, that was a long time to leave me hanging Susan!!

This is almost 500 pages long, so it’s a looooong book, and what I’d consider a really slow burn. Really slow. Susan likes to really tell a story, so there’s a lot of information, and rehashing, but some people may enjoy that. This was a real ‘whodunnit’ and it was fun trying to figure out what was happening and. I do feel though, that Susan could really have nailed this book with some added tension and suspense, had it been shorter.

Rating

I Have Something to Tell You has a Goodreads rating of 3.6 stars. For me, it’s around 3 stars. This leans more towards the Domestic Drama genre, so it’s a very light read. Personally, I found some of the happenings towards the end a bit questionable and the plot twists, I was  expecting. If you love this genre though, with a bit of murder and whodunnit on the side, I think you’ll enjoy this book.

Thank you Jonathan Ball for sending this one over!
